In case, I can't take the French courses through the province, what coursebook/ cd do you folks recommend? I want to learn it enough to function in a work setting and everyday life in Quebec, should we decide to return. I searched Amazon and wasn't sure which one to choose.

Buy a used Rosetta Stone prgram.
I used Rosetta Stone before I got into the military family resource center's part-time french courses here. Since I was starting from zero, and I'm used to rote learning from my American education, I found Rosetta Stone very frustrating. Now that I have a base, I use Rosetta Stone, along with the classes, watching movies in french, and another software I received through the military french courses, and the Rosetta Stone is MUCH more helpful. If you have a bit of a base from school, it may work well for you. I would get frustrated when I couldn't figure out what the picture was, and the writing part was IMPOSSIBLE for me until I got a bit of a base. Just my experiences.
About to use my broken french to got to Canadian Tire to get my wheels changed (still rocking my snow tires past the provincial deadline). What I lack in skill in communicating en français, I make up for in a willingness to look like a fool and just keep trying until SOMEONE understands me, haha!
Why don't you head over to Michel Fortin on Saint-Denis (north of Pins avenue and on the west side of Saint-Denis)?
It has more books to learn almost any language. The selection will make your head spin.
Thanks guys and gals, that's what I was leaning towards. I'll get on that.
