Hello

I am a new poster on these vast oceanic boards. I have been devouring the forums for the last four weeks or so. I do have a particularly weird situation, and I'd be grateful if you could express your opinion about it.

I am a Civil Engineer with 2.5 years of work experience as an on-site Civil Engineer. I recently took IELTS and got an overall band score of 8 with individual scores being 9 (L), 7.5, 7.5, 7.5.

I am 24 years old.

It would appear that I qualify for both the Federal Skilled Worker Program as well as the Quebec Skilled Worker program for my visa.

I'd like to move to CA ASAP. Given that immigration is a time-consuming and mentally straining process, I'm inclined to get started ASAP. All my documents (originals) are ready, and I can get them all certified by a notary within one day.

My objective here is to minimise the time it takes to finally land in CA, and start working there. I am not hurting for money, though, and I don't really need to get a job as soon as I land to survive. I can survive in CA for a whole year on my current savings.

I contacted an immigration law firm, and they assert that I can get to CA through the Quebec program in 12-18 months. However, reading through hundreds of posts on this forum I have got the impression that it takes far longer than that. Though these people are willing to guarantee that they can get it done, are are not hesitating in signing a contract that explicitly defines their guarantee. It's a new firm, though, I can't find any reviews for their services by past clients. He might have suggested, albeit indirectly, that they have "connections", though I ca not be sure if he really made that insinuation.

I also contacted an immigration consultancy, a larger, more famous one. The person from this company insists that the FSW program can get me into CA within 6-12 months. The CIC website, however, says that the average processing time for the FSW program is 22 months. He says that the QSW takes longer than the FSW program, but also insists that the QSW program is likely to have a processing time of 18-22 months. I told him about this, but he refuted that. Just the fact that he doesn't even know the processing time that's being floated on the CIC website makes me comfortable.

Now...

I don't mind their fees. I really don't. And I'm happy to pay if someone will fill out everything for me, and take care of the paperwork, so that I can focus on doing things that I like. Things like overseeing the construction of a dam.

But a part of me skeptical. They sound too good to be true.

I would like to know what you'd do if you were in my place, and what your suggestion for me would be. Please take a minute and tell me what you'd do here...

Thank You
RP

What's DAW?

Thanks

yes thats true QSW is a bit slower than Federal skilled worker.because you will first get a certificate of nomination from Quebec and then you will apply through CIC (Citizen and immigration canada). you are a bit late for federal skilled worker program as i am afraid the cap for civil engineers is filled already. otherwise for FSW you would have your visa in one year. take a look
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp

btw if you could tell us where are you from and where are your educational credentials from plus your nationality.
and furthermore there is also a provincial nominee scheme from nova scotia.

Thanks for writing.

I am from New Delhi. I got my Bachelors in Civil from IIT-Delhi in 2011. I have also been running a marketing consultancy business from 2010 on the side, apart from the job.

I know that the FSW program's caps have been reached for the year, but it's going to reopen in a couple of months. I am thinking about applying then.

There is no official word, but looking at the pattern over the last few years, it'll either open up in May or June. That's likely.

It's actually unlikely.

There has been an announcement. CIC has announced that they will be introducing the EOI process for FSW in January 2015.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/DEPARTMENT/media/backgrounders/2013/2013-10-28b.asp

Consequently it's quite likely that FSW will not reopen in 2014.
