Hi to all..
I am currently in Montreal from 2012, I completed 18 months of full time job (class A,O) therefore i was eligible for CSQ (PEQ category) which i got in 2 months. I am currently waiting for AOR , my file was received in March 4th (3 months + 6 days))..
In 2013 timeline for AOR was 1 month , in 2014 it jumped to 2 / 3 months at present it is taking 3 to 4 Mo, whether you applied inland or from outside Canada ,,

Good luck to all.

Thanks for starting this thread.

I'm living and working in Montreal. I received my Quebec CSQ through PEQ. I sent my federal application to Nova Scotia and according to Canada post it was received on April 13, 2015. I'm still waiting for any kind of acknowledgement (AOR). Since it's almost 2 months, I was going to call them, but after reading this thread I guess this delay is not unusual.

I've a question and I've received no reliable information on this topic. I wonder if some of you have any advice.

As I said, I'm in Montreal, working at a job with a work permit. If I were to leave the job now, how will it affect my residency application? Note that, I do plan to live in Montreal/Quebec for long time even after leaving the job; so there shouldn't be any problem with my intent of living in Quebec. I've heard from some friends that Quebec CSQ implicitly allows me to live in Quebec while I'm waiting on my federal application. I tried to confirm with some lawyers, but they won't give any advice. Also if I leave the job, will I be able to leave Canada and come back - provided let's say I get the TRV on my current work permit.

I don't know what different kinds of work permits there are. The document title only says "Work Permit/Permit du travail". I suppose I got it as a skilled worker (?), my employer processed it for me.

What I find fascinating is, the work permit states that you cannot work at different location, or for a different employer, or a different occupation; you cannot even take any courses. But that still doesn't prohibit the person from just staying in Canada and maybe just travel around and enjoy the life. That's what I want to get clarified. If the person has Quebec's CSQ and is waiting on federal PR processing, then can he/she just stay in Quebec without working or studying.

So what you have is closed work permit. I wouldn't say that it will be completely ok to quit the job and travel outside canada. but i can say that you can stay in canada as long as you have valid visa. As you have closed working permit its not ok to quit your job before PR. If you have to go outside canada or you don't want to work at your current place, just take vacations from your work place for few months.

Or you can apply for OPEN work permit when your federal application has cleared its 1st step.

Hi Nomad0042
I am experiencing the same situation , I resigned from my Job in Montreal at the same time of sending my PR application, i have a closed work permit valid for another 5 months, my AOR (1st stage approval) is expected anytime in June, once i have it, I will immediately apply for an open work permit to enable me stay and work until PR... I advise you to not leave your job if you have a closed Work permit and if you are not eligible yet to apply for an Open WP. Finding a job, in this case, is very difficult, because there is a processing time 2 month + 230 CAD (LMIA exempt to be paid by the new employer, this fee was introduced in Feb 2015) + 150 CAD for the new work permit , and most employers "if Not all" won't do it and wait 2 months for your work permit unless they have no alternative.
