Now what I'm wondering is how long it will take for them to stamp my passport and give it back to me? I need to travel with it end of November and end of December. They say I have to send my passport in within 60 days of the request date to finalize my application. Can I maybe get an expedite process if I provide proof for pre-arranged travel plans?
Hi VO, I'm thinking of sending my passport after my November trip and hopefully can get it back before my December trip. I'll then do the landing when I come back. Does that make sense?
My big question is whether they would accept my expedite request... I only have about 3 weeks between end of Nov and end of Dec...
I am in a similar situation, I have to travel at the end of the month and expect to get my COPR at any time now. I'll have to travel on my temporary visa and get the PR done when I get back.
You can't ask for emergency PR card when it's the first time it is issued. However, if you have free time during your travel and have already sent in your passport, you can go to a Canadian embassy and ask for a travel authorization ($50) which can get you back in Canada without the PR card.
If you want to speed up the passport process, you could send it with ultra-express mail and include prepaid express mailing for when they return it to you, but there's no guarantee it'll take less than 3 weeks even with that...
If you have another visa right now, I suggest you wait until you get back from the December trip.
Hi Golberg thanks for your response
I still haven't sent in my passport yet because I need it to enter the destination I'm travelling to. (I'm currently in Canada)
And Yes I have a temporary Visa to come back to Canada after my December trip.
The only thing I'm worried about is the 60 days window to send in the passport.
Time will be tight when I come back on January 1st. (I got the passport request letter on Nov.4)
I guess PR card processing is not an issue for me since that's after I land. I'm just hoping that they can stamp my passport and give it back to me in 3 weeks before my December trip.... otherwise I'll wait until January 1st (don't wanna risk my flight tickets)
I wasn't aware of the 60-day window, but I'd wait until January and send it with 1-day delivery. It'll cost you extra but you'll be sure not to miss your flights
You might want to write them an email or something to see if you can extend that window or at least alert them, just in case :
