I would be applying for PRTD from India and I am a new PR and had to leave before PR card arrived.
I have two questions -
1. People say that it's good to show bank statement etc. as proof of residence in Canada, but I would be in Canads for just a week, I can open a bank account there in that period but for a bank statement, wouldn't I need at least a month?
As if not this, I would be getting my SIN. And that is the only proof of residence I would have to give. What to do?
2. In the PRTD form given on CIC website, it's written that if your stay in Canada is greater or equal to 730 days, you comply with the residency obligation and skip to Declaration and if you don't you might not get it?
How should I fill this section of the form considering I am a new PR and would have stayed in Canada for hardly a week!?
No need for proof or residence of bank account. You have just arrived so are compliant with the 730 days within 5 years. You will have no problem getting a prtd when you apply. A soft landing is a common occurrence.

They ask to fill a table for "Time spent in Canada"
And then they ask to write the total number of days stayed in Canada and if that total is equal or more than 730 days, skip to Declaration, if not answer rest of the questions.
And the rest of the questions are
1. Are you travelling with a Permanent resident who is working outside of canada with Canadian business - which is NO
2. Humanitarian grounds - which is NO too, I guess as we are going to India for a wedding .
3. Declaration
And some people said that basically, if you do not have equal or more than 730 days of stay in Canada, you don't comply with the Residency Obligation.
I am sorry if I am sounding confused. I really am with all the information out there.
I see that most of the applicants submitted cover letters but i called VFS and even IRCC they never asked for that and i have specifically as for the list of documents. Will that be a problem?

As far as I know, cover letter isn't a mandatory document. Some people choose to attach one to explain there situation better.
If your other documentation was good, I don't think it should be a problem as such.
Having said that, I am myself in the same boat right now, gathering all information before applying for PRTD.
Is there anyone who received PRTD recently? I applied on 23rd October and havent received it yet. I had to reschedule m flight because I didnt get PRTD.

Here is the list of documents I submitted.

3. Copies of all stamped pages of passport
4. Entry/exit form detailing travel history over the past five years
5. Cover letter
6. Copy of Toronto Hydro bill

So far the status is "under process", as expected. I will post updates if anything changes.
