I have visited Canada and come back in a week, nothing was required from my side on proof of funds, the officer just asked for me and my family COPR and told me to wait in waiting area, after 20 minutes called me and gave me my stamped COPR.
They do ask for Proof of funds as it is the mandate. However at times they do not ask (doesn't mean that they are not expecting the POF). The rules stays. And I don't think you would want to risk the entry after paying the airfare and money on visa (and the time ofcourse) for not following the rules.
Can Anyone clarify as if settlement funds - I am planning to lad first, followed by my family after couple of months. Do I need to carry funds for all OR do my family need to carry their share along with them, when they arrive?
I am an EE aspirant. I am planning to ask my brother to deposit some amount in my account as gift. WIll that be a problem (I guess its not as thats what i have read if its blood relation)
I am also planning to take some cash and deposit it in my account and not sure if that's good idea. Tips please?

Yes certainly. No limits. Though not millions (unless you can prove they are legal). You will need to declare on the airline customs form if you carry over 10K CAD or its equivalent in currency.
I am sorry but if you're borrowing to show proof of funds, even if it is a gift, you're assuming a great risk on the validity of your application. The proof requires you to submit bank statements for 3 - 6 months, and if it shows a sudden increase in the funds transferred from an individual, your application may get rejected. :|

Thanks, however, i have kept the amount in a FD for 1 year and by the time i am expecting an ITA (my score is on lower band), it would be more than 6 months. Would there still be an issue?

Depends. If this particular FD constitutes 70-80% of your POF, then it might be an issue. Although the longer the money is in your account, the safer you are.

Xylene, I am also planning short landing in Canada. But afraid of loss of exchange. So shall i carry 1000 dollars and rest Indian local bank Fixed deposit certificates. Will that be enough.
Hi everyone,
I am travelling to Toronto tomorrow. I am getting stressed as the document for POF. This is my first landing and I want to come back a week after. To prevent loss of money in exchange, can I show "Balance Certificate" along with "Bank Statement" from and Australian bank as POF?
I can take cash in Australian dollars but it is too risky for taking large amount of cash during travel.

I wouldn't recommend Indian Bank account. They are looking to see that the money is readily available in Canada. I wouldn't risk entry and residency for the loss of exchange.
Just want to ask any idea, in the period of background check by VO (in my case LVO) for the proof of funds. They do the checking, verifying and calling the bank where i have an account base on my submitted Bank certificate?
Hi
We are preparing for a short landing in May.
We will open an account with HSBC Canada from Dubai and transfer proof of funds to this account .But this account can be activated only after
we personally visit HSBC Canada branch and the account statement will not be available till this time.
Can we show the receipt of fund transfer to the immigration officer and will it be accepted as proof of funds ?
We will be carrying some cash for immediate use...Kindly advice
