Hi! I applied for my OPEN WORK PERMIT/SPOUSE SPONSORSHIP inland on September 2010. I am wondering how long it takes for the open work permit to come in, also i am wondering how long it takes to start processing or for my files to show up in their system when i look it up. The border said that it should take about 2 months for my papers to be received and be in the system, yet it has been 2 months now and there is still nothing and no word from them. Any advice would be helpful thank you!
This is the new link for processing timelines - scroll down to the bottom where it says "Person to be sponsored lives in Canada". It's showing 8-9 months for initial assessment, and then another 9 months (where status is available online) to complete the rest of the assessment.
Your Open Work Permit application should be automatically forwarded to you as soon as the first stage of assessment is completed . . . 8-9 months after they received your application. They're currently working on aps received through Feb 15, 2010, so you've got about 7 months to go.
Yip, Robsluvs right, also there is no set amount of time they approve the OWP for. I got 2 years, and I know one other person only got 4 months. Not sure if this means second stage will take a while for me though....
I submitted my PR & Open Work Permit papers dated January,2010, I am really wondering when I am getting my OPen Permit, because it's been 10 months already.
