Please advise;

1. I landed in (Quebec) recently but I am still in grad school in the US. I have at least one more semester to do before I can leave campus (to live in Canada). Please advise if this affects my Quebec residency, Or is it ok that I have been visiting Quebec once every few weekends - could this count towards Quebec residency.

2. More complicated: if i had my baby in the US (I have to be in school close to my due date) would it be a smooth process to apply for sponsorship for the baby to be a PR also? I hope it does not my PR status if within a year of PR I still have not fully settled in Canada and yet I have to sponsor an addition to the family. Do I need to go through the whole process of PR application/proof of income and all? I really want to get course work out of the way before I move to permanetly settle in Quebec in summer 2010.

I'd really appreciate your knowledgeable comments. Thanks.

The requirement to maintain your PR is to spend at least 2 out of every 5 years in Canada. It doesn't matter if you immigrated through Quebec or not.

You can definitely sponsor your dependent child for PR. It shouldn't be a problem for a newborn, but I'm not familiar with the exact process myself.

When you are a PR yourself, you can not sponsor the baby while you are living in the US. You would have to do it after you are back in Canada. It shouldn't be a big deal.
