My wife just received her new russian passport. In it they changed the transliteration of her surname by 1 letter.
As a result, her surname in english in her passport is now different from her PR card.
Russian embassy will not issue a new Passport since the name is ok in Russian (which is all they care about).
Anyone have similar problem that can share experience?
Should I be concerned with her having problems with Customs when re-entering Canada?
What about plane ticket, should I use Passport or PR card spelling when booking ticket?
Yes, it is a common situation in Russia and Ukraine.
But, I think it is not a problem.
Tickets I am sure should be bought with passport.
I don't think there can be any problems crossing boarder as they most probably aware of such situations with alternative spelling.
Try to ask on Russian speaking forums like lawpoint.ca and forum.chemodan.ua
