I am in the UK and received my PR card five years ago but was unable to take up residency because my mother had a severe stroke and is in a nursing home. I am her only son in the UK and she has a very high level of need. I tried applying for a travel document but they have informed me that as I have not fulfilled the residency obligation, my PR status is being revoked. I provided a covering letter and evidence regarding the circumstances but this was obviously not enough. My view was that I could not put this off indefinately.
Just wondering if anyone thinks it is worth appealing and whether I should look at getting representation. I could try representing myself, of course, and just expalin the circumstances.
I would recommend you post your question to the Residency Obligation section of the forum. This is where topics like this are discussed.
It sounds like you're not ready to return to Canada yet and were just looking to extend your PR card. If so, this was unfortunately most likely not the right time to apply for the TD. It would have been preferable to wait until you were actually ready to relocate to Canada permanently. Having said that, what's done is done. I'm not sure the appeal has any chance of success if you're not ready to relocate permanently to Canada now. Having said that, you can certainly try.
Thanks for your reply. I have posted my question to the Residency Obligation section. One of the reasons I applied for a PR card was because I wanted to re-enter Canada later this year. It seemed that the only way to do this was to apply for a travel document. Just to let you you know, I also submitted renewal papers to Sydney. I know you are supposed to wait until you are back in Canada but I thought it was worth a try.
