Hi. My parents are back home ( India ). They are 150 days short out of 730 days to be eligible for PR Card renewal. They don’t want to travel in this situation as it’s crazy number of cases in India.

will they get grace time due to Covid if they are not able to come to meet eligibility before august 2021?

thanks

IRCC has not announced any exceptions or grade periods due to COVID-19. As PRs, your parents are free to travel to Canada now to make sure they meet the residency requirement and the travel ban does not apply to them.

2 out of 5 years is already extremely lenient. There are always risks when you only plan on returning to Canada at the last minute. The argument will always be that they had 3 other years that they spent abroad before covid.

Same situation here,we renewed our pr in 2018 and are still in India, already 3 years, now no jobs in Canada. Corona covid also, need to go to Canada by January to be eligible for pr days, but no flights from Mumbai..scared to go in this situation.

It's ultimately your choice based on how impotant it is for you to keep your Canadian PR status.

Flight are operating from India and as a PR you are allowed to travel.

Are you aware that after the first renewal RO is now a rolling total? On any day you must have met the 2 out of 5 year residency requirement. There have been a large number of PRs or citizens who have returned after being in India who have returned. Lots of parents and international students as well. There are flights.
