Hi

My wife arrived in Canada in Mid April

Will Canada immigration mail her a PR card? or do I have to apply for one?

It's been more than 6 weeks....who can i call to get an update?

Thanks

How about calling CIC Call centre ?

google the number if you can't find it on cic website.

It's too early to call. Here, the current processing time:

"New permanent residents 64 calendar days"

Source: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

I'm wondering before getting the PR card, can the applicant (from a visa exempt country) leave Canada to travel for months and have the family mails the PR card abroad after?

Yes, this can be done.

I'd personally recommend sending it through courrier, not Canada Post. I had to send my passport — not PR Card, since when I landed it was pretty quick, and then when I renewed my card it was also super quick — a couple of times overseas (e.g. to have my immigrant visa affixed to my passport at the visa office responsible for my application, while I was in Canada) and I've always used FedEx for that, but there are other options out there.

Thank you for your reply!!! I've heard bad experiences of Canada post too. My husband and I are planning on traveling soon but I don't want to wait around for another 2-3 months just for the card meanwhile we don't want leaving the country before PR card on hand becomes an issue later on.
