PR application while Studying in Canada

Quick question, hopefully someone has an idea about what I'm talking about.

Here's the scenario: International student, studying in Canada falls in love with Canadian, gets engaged now wants to apply for PR but is worried that he will lose his study permit and student work permit once PR application is submitted.

Can anyone tell me how this works exactly, this person wants to submit the PR application asap but is worried he'll lose his other stuff. He lives in Canada currently as he is studying there so it would be a PR from within Canada.

I did this. You won’t lose your student status but you can only apply once you become common law or get married and obtain your marriage certificate.

Thank you for your response, were you also working?
His study permit expires in april, would he be able to renew it while his PR application is being processed? What if he applies for a work permit while his PR is being processed, do you know if it would be refused or accepted?

I did this. You won’t lose your student status but you can only apply once you become common law or get married and obtain your marriage certificate.

Why would he extend his study permit? Is he graduating and planning to go straight back to school? If not, he can apply for a post graduate work permit immediately after graduation as you only have so long after graduation to be eligible to apply.

If you’re on a study permit you can’t sponsor him for PR because you’re not a PR nor a citizen yourself.
