Did your PPR letter say how long the validity of your passport should be when you submit it?
In some cases, they will return it if it's under 12 months and ask you to submit a new passport.
In my opinion you should call CIC and explain your situation and take it from there. They might have option to transfer your visa from old passport to new passport. Best is to take CIC advice.

If you renew your passport before your visa expires, you should be able to transfer it over. My husband renewed his work permit for a further year but they could only do it up to the expiry date of his passport. We were told by CBSA agent that if he renewed his passport before the permit expired then the permit would be transferred into new passport - I'm assuming the same would happen with a COPR but as other have said, check with CIC.
I have a similar issue. When I applied for Express Entry, I had more than 1 year and 2 months for my express entry. I am expecting PPR anytime now and my passport expires in around 11 months. How did you deal with this issue. Many thanks.
