Dear friends, my friend has done a 2 yrs BCom and 1 yr MBA Exe from Pakistan and as it makes 3 yrs of education he couldnt qualify for an admission in masters programme. Now he got admission in Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management programme in CIMT college Toronto which is equivalant to Master programme. He's got 6.5 IELTS and has good experience and is financially sound. Plz suggest if he's alright to secure the visa???

Did he try to get admission in Universities ? There are many universities also offering post graduate diploma in Business.

yes he did but they also look for 4 yrs undergraduate. but do u see it could be a problem in getting a visa if he gets admission in a private inst. i.e. CIMT

If he holds good grad/marks(atleast above average), No study gap, relavent course selection ,No incomplete study then private college has nothing to do with visa

If he did applied in Universities, can you provide me the names of the universities . Private inst. i.e. CIMT may be a problem for visa.

He applied in Simon Fraser's Postgraduate Diploma in Bus. Mgt > turns out an online course
Applied in Sauder Business School's Diploma in Acc > didnt get admission
Sent an email looked for admission in Post Grad Diploma in Concordia > no response - deadline missed
Applied in Memorial's MBA > they asked GMAT & 4 yrs undergrad

CIMT accepted the application and has sent the LOA. Its a two yr Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management equivalent to Master though the college is private.......what should he do now? ??? ???

For the record, the CIMT postgraduate diploma is NOT equivalent to a Masters. Maybe that's what the school told him - however that's not how everyone else (employers, CIC, etc.) will look at it.

I have to tell you that CIMT had a pretty bad reputation here - it's seen as a bit of a joke and it's the kind of school people attend because they can't get in anywhere else. If you're going to spend that much money coming here, pick a different (better) school.

Keep in mind there are other limitations to attending CIMT. For example, you can't apply for an off campus work permit.

I would continue applying until you get into a better school.

Just to add to my previous note, if you attend CIMT you also will NOT qualify for a post graduate work permit after you finish your studies.

Scylla, we've paid $400 each already....any chance of getting it back?

They have stated on their website the diploma is equivalent....and also eligible to get post study work permit thereafter....this is probably a fraud isnt it?

OR
Is it possible to get a visa approved through the college and then change it right from the day we land in Canada??

I have no idea if you can get your money back. You would have to ask the school or read the small print you agreed to when you paid.

Maybe I'm wrong about the post grad study permit. I'll see if I can double check that.

I think they can say whatever they want on their website about this course being the equivalent to a Masters. I don't think this is fraud - just their opinion. However I know how this school is perceived here - and it's not good.

Yes - you can change to a differen school/program once you get to Canada. However the trick is that you'll have to get CIC to approve the visa first. As others have said, this may be difficult given the school is CIMT.

Hi,

1. It's a private school. You won't be eligible for any work permit (off campus/PGWP). You are eligible for a co-op work permit (only if it's a part of course).
