My wife received her police certificate from Malaysia dated June 15, 2013. We are about to send in the PR application next week. I understand that the police certificate expires after 3 months. Now I know it takes quite a while for CIC to update the status of the application upon them receiving it, so when will they count the validity of the 3 months expiry? From the day I mail it out? From the day they enter the application in their system? Are we safe with the expiry date if we mail it out next week?
This does NOT mean that the PCC expires after 3 months. What it means is that, the date on which the certificate was issued should not be earlier than 3 months from the date of your application. So, if you submitted your application in June (Your application date is June 1st - it does not matter when it reaches CIC), then the date on PCC should not be less than Feb 1st (3 months before your application date).
What this means is, your PCC should be recent. You cannot submit an old copy of your PCC along with your application.
I have come across one link (do not have that now), where it mentioned that a PCC was "generally valid for 12 months". I have personally received a letter from CIC on my mom's application to submit a fresh PCC "if the PCC on file is older than 12 months".
