do u have canadian visa? I believe if u have canadian visa then u r exempt from transit visa ....I am not sure but verify this on the UK visa website
Yes - you need a visa:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/do-you-need-a-visa/
- If you are coming to the UK briefly as part of your journey to another country, you will generally need to obtain a UK visa before you travel.
- If you will arrive on a flight, remain in the arrival lounge of the airport without passing through immigration control, and then depart on another flight from the same airport, you should apply for a direct airside transit visa.
- If you will arrive in the UK, pass through immigration control and then leave the UK within 48 hours, you should apply for a visitor in transit visa. If you will spend more than 48 hours in the UK, you must obtain another type of visitor visa before you travel. The Visiting the UK section lists the types of visitor visa.
No you don't need a transit visa.
Quote:
"If you are a visa national(India, Pakistan etc are) or recognised as stateless, you may be able to transit the UK landside without a visa. To qualify for this exemption:
you must arrive and depart by air;
your onward flight must be confirmed, and must depart within 24 hours; and
you have proper documentation for your destination, including a visa if necessary
Additionally, if you are a national of country covered by the DATV system (India and Pakistan are covered by DATV), you (or a person with whom you arrive in the UK) must hold:
1) a valid entry visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA, and a valid airline ticket for travel via the UK, as part of a journey to or from one of those countries;

If you note the underline parts of my previous reply, it clearly states "depart within 24 hours". You don't have to worry about the change of date. If you are departing heathrow within 24 hours, you don't need a transit visa.
No, you will not require a visa. You may also be able to get visa concession if you want to go outside the airport (although it solely depends on the immigration officer, but in most cases they will allow you to go outside the airport).
Here's a response from UK border agency office New Delhi
Airside transit visa - If you will be staying in the airport itself and won't cross the immigration counter
Landside transit visa - If you will be cross the immigration counter for airport switch or hotel stay etc.
Dear Sir
Thank you for your e-mail.
The answer is that NO you do not require an airside transit visa. However, the purpose of the landside transit is to permit travellers to switch airport or to overnight in the UK between flights – it is not designed to facilitate a visit. It is not clear from the query whether you will spend the 16 hours during the day or will be overnight in London. If it is the latter then you can go landside without a visa, for the former, the immigration Officer on the arrival control may let you in but equally they may decide that the reason for going landside would be for a visit – and refuse you entry without a visit visa.

It's good that UK official reply mails. My flight is visa Frankfurt-Germany and the embassy neither picked the phone nor replied to my mail but I got it confirmed that we don't need the visa for Frankfurt as well.
Best of luck for your journey.
