hai everbody
we had got our visas and we are planning to travel to toronto from india for couple of weeks to complete our landing formalities. One of our friends had recommended to take our POF in demand draft ( in indian rupees ) so that we can easily encash when we are back . I just want to know whether the immigration officers at the port of entry will accept proof of funds ( app. CAD 17000 for 3 members) in indian rupees or not .seniors kindly advice
Dear..IO will ask you to show proof of funds and the form that could be in the form of TC, DD or Cash.
If u wish to open a account in Canada and deposit money, suggest to carry TC instead of Demand draft as it takes about 22 working days to credit which is painful. Travellers cheque is best option in my view.
For amount to carry, for three members it is CAD 17,011. It is better to be in CAD.

thanks for your information ,Iam planning CAD 3000 cash and rest in demand draft, iam not planning to deposit it in canadian bank , my question is whether i can carry rest amount in demand draft as indian rupees ( approximate INR 700000) which will be equal to CAD 14,000.

1. Yes, there's an 'entry interview' conducted by the BSO, who'd be processing your 'record of landing'... but this interview isn't done traditionally... it'd be a casual tête-à-tête... mostly dwelling on your recent medical situation [if any], change in family composition [if any], security & criminality issues [if any] and simple personal talk.
2. U don't require any docs/certs/letters to be shown to the BSO - except the ones provided by CIC.
3. Read my thread on POF - u'd know the figures required. U must bring the funds in CAD, USD, Euro or GBP. I won't know the IRs conversion -- but u can check it 'real-time' thru www.oanda.com.
As per the link Pittabread made from Qorax's post:

As I posted above you can't take the rest of money in Indian rupees. It has to be in Canadian $, US $, Euro or GBP sterling. I quoted this from Qorax post.
If you want to hear from Qorax directly send him private message or start a new thread clearly mentioning his name so he can see that. He hasn't seen this thread I suppose and may not answer here.
