PGWP issued for 1 year instead of 3 years

Hello
I need immediate suggestions.
If I transfer from 2 year Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Business Management at Cape Breton University to any 1/2 year college Diploma/ 1 year college graduate certificate at college, will it affect on PGWP?
Should I maintain level of program while transfering DLI ? Can I transfer to 1 year College graduate certificate?
I need to make a decision, so I need genuine suggestions.

So you have an approved study permit for CBU and no intention of studying there? If so you need a new study permit for your new program. This is not a PGWP issue so shouldn’t be posting here.

Hi All,

I made a mistake in PGWP. I did 2 courses and the application asked for the highest or most recent level of education. I submitted the latest course details and my work permit was issued for 1 year when I was entitled to 3 years. The application form was misleading and only 1 column was given to mention the academic course. What should I do to get the 3-year PGWP. I have applied for the same on the web form. Is this a common issue?

What is the issue as OP posted in 2020? What were his timelines of studying two programs? Did he include both transcripts/letters of completion? How long was each program? PGWP has changed rules too.


You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed must be

• PGWP eligible and
• at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in length

You can’t get a PGWP if you already had one after completing an earlier program of study.

my brother study 2 diploma course 16 month both course are 8 months lenth in same college he's friend also get 3 year pgwp work permit of this same course but my brother get 1 year pgwp he apply for reconsider application on webform I hope he get other 2 year pgwp

All you can do is wait as there are no timelines for reconsideration.

Get a lawyer to help with next steps. 3 year PGWP is not guaranteed with back to back programs. It states the length of the two programs.

He study full length 16 month 2 year program his friend also study same course and get 3 year pgwp work permit but my brother didn't get he made mistake in uploading documents on pgwp work permit they said upload latest course documents and my brother upload latest year program document he upload only 2 year program document that's why this happen with him

So you were in a 2 year program and got 1 year PGWP?
