Folks,

Please join me in signing this petition to demand CIC to improve processing time for inland spousal sponsorship and grant sponsored spouses Open Work Permit upon Acknowledgement of Receipt instead of AIP.

http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/citizenship-and-immigration-canada-improve-processing-time-for-inland-spousal-sponsorship-and-grant-open-work-permit-upon-aor?utm_source=guides&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=petition_created

The result of this petition will be forwarded to the Minister and Director responsible for Immigration branch of CIC operations, as well as immigration media reporters. The more you spread this, the sooner we can reach the required number of signatures. So please help if we agree on this.

Thank you,

Is it too late to edit the petition? I would drop the part about Vegreville being 6 months for AIP. For most (all?) of last year, AIP was sitting in the 8-12 month range. So I think the Vegreville to Mississauga statement weakens the argument.

I think the strength of the argument should lie in the fact that most economic streams qualify for a BOWP once they have AOR - but inland spousal currently doesn't quality for OWP with AOR. You're effectively looking for equality in the inland spousal sponsorship stream (i.e. asking for the spousal stream to be treated in a consistent manner as the economic streams). I personally would have made this the focus of the petition since no one can argue with these facts and because there is a clear different in how the two streams are treated.

Just my opinion...

Thank you. I will edit the petition to reflect the correct timeframe. Please support! CIC is doing things in a backward way: people already here dont get to work. spouses of Canadians dont get to work. foreign spouses can come in and work freely.

Good luck with this petition, however I don't see it succeeding. Your petion is flawed, and unrealistic.

you should also include outland, as well as appeal waiting times in Toronto (28 months for me and 5 years in total)

Immigration system has been broken for a very long time.

Sorry - I just realized people have already signed. That means you can't edit without effectively invalidating the petition. You would have to start a new petition from scratch.

As a side note, I'm not sure this is the right timing for this petition.

Right now there's a fair amount of media, petitions and MP dialogue around two big immigration related issues:

- The bill to change citizenship requirements
- The moratorium on food services LMOs

I think anything else raised right now will get lost in the shuffle / ignored by both the media and MPs.

But obviously your choice. Good luck.

You never know :) A group of my friends proposed a long term visa for parents to Jason Kenney and shortly after, the government created a visa category so called 'super visa' exactly same as the proposed ideas by the public. Is it coincidence? I dont know. But I bet CIC officers sometimes do not see the real picture and need people to give them practical ideas.

If it was shortly afterwards - then yes, this was just a coincidence.

About a month ago (perhaps a bit longer) there was a person here that claimed to be a CBC reporter, looking for those that were being denied health coverage prior to AIP. I believe the post was in the first thread here (Spousal Sponsorship), so you might be able to find their contact information and alert them to your petition as well.

The shut down of parents immigration happened over night. CIC can create an idea and implement it within matter of weeks. If we can see problems in our immigration system here and there, as compared to other mind-like countries like US and Australia, that means CIC staff are not always the brightest and smartest people to deal with immigration matters of this country. The public can sometimes see the picture better!

But we dont try to be smarter than them. We try to tell them what is right in our views, and if they listen, that would benefit everyone.

There was approximately two years of planning that preceeded this shut down - including public forums and surveys regarding what should be done. Many of us here participated in the online surveys and one of the options proposed was the super visa concept (although it wasn't called that at the time) or an extended stay for parents. The moratorium on parent sponsorships and launch of the super visa came out from these findings of this work.

Thank you. I will contact CBC reporter and ask if she could bring this up on CBC after we have reached 100 signatures. I can't do this alone. Please support the petition. CIC has increased processing time for inland spousal applications every month and people's lives are put in limbo.

I signed! I just want you to know that I think it is really great that you are actually standing up for something you believe in. It is sad to see people that go out of their way to shoot down something you are passionate about. If you don't want to try to make a difference and support one another then move on.

Thank you. At least we will be heard!
