Asking on behalf of a friend. He is presently in the US. He complained that the elders in their family has denounced and disowned him because he did not support their culture of circumcision which was going to be done to his unborn child which he eventually gave birth to in the US. That they could do that because both of his parents are late. They died as a result of the none support for that culture for the children so when they fell sick refused take of them and left them to die. Although according to him, the father died of high blood pressure and the mother died 6 years later.
Question is, how can he sick asylum in canada from US as a Nigerian or what should he do to be protected. Pls help. Thanks in advance

Is he claiming the persecution is happening in the states or back home in Nigeria? If its USA then I think there would be zero chance of approval as the US is considered a safe country, he can go to the police and they would help him or he could move to another state.
If its back home in Nigeria you might want to research safe third country agreement. You have claim asylum in the first safe country you land in unless you meet certain exceptions. So they would refuse him saying he should have claimed in the US. Might want to research what those exceptions are.
edit: He gave birth to? I assume another female gave birth to the child, what is her status in the states?

Even if this is happening in Nigeria, there is the option of "Internal Flight Alternative". This is likely to result in an asylum claim being denied for Nigeria.

Yes his wife gave birth to the child Iñ the US. They have 2 children so making 3. They have actually over stayed because they feared what will happen if they come back to Nigeria.
Oh thank you so much this is an eye opener

There is currently a large volume of asylum seekers from Nigeria who have claimed asylum. Most have walked over the border and not at border crossing. Many have been coached to say they are LGBTQ or that they are fleeing FGM. Some have given almost identical stories which raised alarms. Unfortunately there are people who are genuinely fleeing persecution for these reasons but some others aren’t. Unfortunately because people are lying it becomes harder to trust stories from others. That is why proof is so important.

Hmm, it is what it is in Nigeria, I believe this is where the IFA comes in they should be able to investigate the home well before certifying that truly, citizens are actually experiencing these persucutions. Thanks
