Passport validity

I renewed my passport on January this year and want to apply for the study permit on April, but the checklist states that it has to be valid for at least 6 months from the date the application is submitted from each person requiring a visa.

this means that the passport should have pre-six month validity? or it's validity must last another 6 months?
