Passport renewal

My husband is a PR. We are currently in his home country, and he needs to renew his passport before we return to Canada. What must he show when he returns to Canada? The old passport with the visa? Or his PR card? Please help! Thanks :-*

Hello my pass port is expiring in 2 years but soon I will be applying for work permit which is of 3 years duration, how early can I renew my Indian passport and my current country of residence is canada and IAM a student in Canada please help any inputs will be appreciated

Thanks for your response, I am however planing to add my spouse name to my passport ,will that extend my passport duration.
