passport Expiry

I am going to start visa processing soon. My course duration is 2 yrs Meng Engineering Management ( Will Begin Fall 2013). My passport will expire on 12 September 2014. Is this going to be a problem in future. What will be the visa duration. Should I apply for passport renewal before applying for visa.

Apply for passport renewal ,, than go for visa..it will be better..

I think the visa is only valid until the expiration of your passport. So If you need a 2-year student visa, you need to have a valid passport good for 2 years or else you have to renew both your passport and student visa in Canada... I have to renew my passport so that I can actually request for a 5-year student visa for my MS-PhD program in UCalgary.
