I am hopefully submitting my spousal application in this week, just waiting for police certificate to come in the mail.
I did my medical on August 26th 2014 and my passport expires on January 27th 2016.
I am applying through London UK so assuming the timeline for that office is correct I should receive PR by August 2015.
That is 5 months before my passport is due to expire, would that be a problem? I know that the Visa would be valid up until my medical or passport expires.
Sorry, what you have written doesn't make sense. You said your passport will expire in January 2015 and you should have PR by August 2015.
This is a problem. You should renew your passport now.
It is usually a rule of thumb that you should only travel on a passport that has at least 6 months left on it. So you should start the process of renewing your passport now.

Ok. Well, if it was me, and I hadn't heard anything from cic by late June 2015, then I would renew my passport then. As long as the passport renewal time is quick, then u should still have your passport back before u expect to hear something regarding your pr. I would be too nervous to travel on my passport if it were nearing expiry.
I should have mentioned that I will have status in Canada by then.
I am going to renew my passport before it only has 6 months left but my concerns were if I got PR close to the 6 month guideline if the CIC would have a problem with that.
I doubt they would have a problem with it, but if you are going to Canada you will likely need your passport at some point. Any time you cross the border to the USA - passport. Take a plane - passport. I'd think it would be simpler to renew it from within the UK, and it should then last until you are eligible for Canadian citizenship.
