For security purposes I am unable to copy the ECAS screen, but these are the steps that we went through.
Ahead of time, my husband did the biometrics and criminal check. I handed these documents in when I submitted the application. In the GCKey it said my application was complete and no further forms were needed. It said that an interview was not necessary, but if one was needed they would contact us, Biometrics done and expires in 2027. The criminal check was also done, but it's part of the "background" check, so the RCMP will do their own internal check. We felt we were being pro-efficient, if we got a police check from his local police office too. We were just being extra prepared.
I also sent many picture's of our wedding and honeymoon with the application. Pictures with our family/friends, vacations, presents/gifts, pictures of my engagement ring, wedding ring, Instagram, Facebook, Facetime chats/messages/messenger...... Lots of evidence of our relationship and commitment to each other. I also wrote a very long letter about how we met and the build up to our marriage and why we fell in love with each other.

Of course u cannot take a copy of ECAS screen! Sorry if I'm explain bad (English is not my 1st language), only to write what looks a 5 line!
For exemple my 4 line is medical exams received...
why ur husband did the biometrics?
My timeline is:
Application received in Sidney 18/06
Sponsorship approval 11/09
File transfer to Paris and they start process on 20/09
Medical exams pass 04/10
Waiting... I don't have access to the bgkeys...

Inshallah yours will come in the 10 month mark too.
I advised my husband to do the biometrics ahead of time and the criminal check. I felt that if we were "extra" prepared it would be good. We are stronger if we are extra prepared. I also have a friend that works for Immigration Canada and she advised me on what to do. She reviewed everything for me, before I submitted the application. She said our application looked perfect and the pictures of our life were lovely. They told a beautiful story of our love for each other. All of our pictures where in colour and I chose the "best" picture's. Really beautiful ones, because the Immigration Office's that review the file, will look at these.
Our application was perfect, no error's, lot's or evidence that our marriage and relationship is strong and we are very organized.

In all honesty, every application is different. It depends on many things. The dynamics of your relationship, the history of your relationship, age, religion..... etc might come into effect too. I cannot guarantee this, but maybe it does. The most important thing to me is, is to make sure that the application is complete, fee's are fully paid and nothing is missing. Make sure you have strong evidence of your marriage, picture's, emails, text messages, Facetime, gifts, plane tickets, wedding picture's, Facebook, Instagram pictures together, honeymoon pictures and a letter explaining your relationship with your husband/wife. I gave a very detailed and long letter explaining how we met, home our relationship grew and why we fell in love. I basically opened my heart. I do believe that our picture's are a great example of what I wrote in our letter. I wanted the Immigration Officer to feel like they knew us and that we are NOT just a file number.
I reviewed my application maybe "10" times before I mailed it and I had others review it too, to make sure we did not forget anything!!!!
I am very good with computers, so I set up the GCKey and ECAS. They kept us up to date with current steps. I called the CIC (2) times,in the entire process and spoke to two seperate agent's, to get updates, but their information was limited. I also applied for our GCMS notes once, but found information there was limited. I suspect too that I ordered them too early. The time that I ordered them it showed the current stages were unprocessed. The GCMS notes were not useful for us, but that is not to say that they would not be useful for others.
Basically, there is no golden rule. At the end of the day, if your marriage is legitimate, the Immigration Officer sees the love and commitment that you have for your spouse, information is complete and accurate, all will be fine. It's a matter of waiting and I know how hard that is too.

True every application is different...
we are together almost 6 years (2 years married)! We don't have Facebook/instragan for option... but we have a lot pictures together and I cry when I write the letter about our relationship! Well everthing I wish is "building" a family with him
