Actually, unless you are a Canadian citizen, nothing guarantees any length of stay. Leaving Canadian citizens, no one else has a right to enter Canada and stay here for as long as they want. Every other immigration status is conditional to something or other. Even PR can be revoked and sent back to their country of citizenship if its conditions are broken OR if Canadian government changes her policy. Noteworthy that even Charter of Rights has a notwithstanding clause, so yeah everything is conditional if you do not have citizenship.
That out of the way, practically, LOTS of people come and enter Canada, legally, and stay here for their authorized period of stay. My parents stayed for one and a half years here (via extension) and now they have a super visa they can stay here for 5 years and an extension of 2 more years, seven years in all, continuously.

Still not correct because if they can’t purchase supervisa insurance or don’t purchase supervisa insurance every year they will not be able to visit for 5 years legally. Given the age of applicants this may be a common situation. As you specified nobody’s time in guaranteed especially temporary residents. Your parents may be able to visit up to 7 years but that is not guaranteed.
There do appear to be some who have not received AOR yet so you are not alone. Would assume you should receive it relatively soon. Would suggest monitoring those who have also not received AOR.
Did you apply towards the end like near the deadline of Aug 2? even though it seems application updates are random i believe there might (or might not be) some order they pick up the apps. in any case though just hold on and wait, we are still lucky that we got picked this year so just have to wait a bit now.

no they have not worked in any sensitive area. They have even never left the home country like thinking from interpol point of view but this step will come later in security clearance.

You are not completely incorrect, people who applied in May and June first week , have received, may be a handful who have not. I applied on 29th July!
