I tried to search for this in the forum, but maybe I am using wrong keyword to search. So anyone please let me know what I have to do: my parents are in Canada (came 2 months ago) and in end of Oct 2024 their super visa is going to expiry on the old passport.
So can they stay for 1–2 yrs without applying any new visitor visa ?
I know we can allow for super visa only outside Canada, but do they need to extend visitor visa before Oct ?
Or they can stay without any visa, one of the immigration consultants told me that they can stay, visa is only for entering the Canada ?

A valid supervisa is only needed when entering Canada so yes they can visit Canada for 1-2 years as long as you take out 1 year of supervisa insurance every year

@steaky I mean, I am not sure, if I apply for extension it will be from anything between 6 months to 1 yr, correct ? and if I apply for visitor visa it might be 10 yrs (until passport expiry date) ?

Oh yes make sense, but do we get extension visa for end of passport expiry date or 6-12 months ? For now, they can stay till Oct on super visa (more I know without applying anything) and I can apply 30 days before that and if they get visitor visa then they can stay for 6 more months and that is all they need for this trip (Oct-Nov + 6 months). But for future trips I think visitor visa might be a better option then just get one time extension. What you think ?

They are much better off on a supervisa and would have to leave to try and reenter on a TRV. Visas are relevant when entering a country while the length they are allowed to visits is a separate issue. For example a 10 year TRV doesn’t allow you to visit for 10 years straight.

Yes that make sense, what about before they leave Canada (on expired super visa, let say next yr) they apply for new visitor visa while staying in Canada ? I am trying to avoid the long processing time from home country.
No, I get that, from your first comment, they can stay in Canada even if their super visa is expiring in oct, visa is just to enter Canada. How long they can stay is depend on type of visa and port of entry officer.
I am confused now - Do I HAVE to apply for extension visa, I thought they can stay even on expired super visa ?
And why can't we apply for visitor visa from Canada (not planing to apply for super visa again, just regular visitor visa this time)

Your parents should be returning to their home country for a significant time to reestablish their ties. If they want to stay for under 6 months they can attempt to get a TRV but if they are already in Canada their TRV application is much weaker than applying from home country.
