Hello everyone,
I have applied last year but wasn’t picked in the 2 rounds of lottery. I applied again this year and I really hope luck favours me this time.
Does anyone have an idea on the total number of applications received so far? I wish it isn’t a crazy number like last year. Good luck to all of you.
Think last year was pretty typical. I can only anticipate the numbers will continue to increase due to the increase number of immigrants in general over the past 20 years especially from a region where intergenerational living is common and as their parents reach retirement.

Well last year since the lottery was not well explained in terms of qualifying, tons of non-qualified people entered and probably lots of duplicates that weren't caught. While this year lottery is not perfect, at least the interest form specifically states income requirements and more info is gathered to weed out duplicate sponsors. So lots of those same unqualified people will not be applying.
So the total lottery entries received, may actually be on par with last year, or could be more or less, who knows. Of course going forward as more and more people become eligible it will get continually harder and harder to win a spot.

I think I saw on IRCC website there were about over 95k applications received in the 1st round of 2017. The 2nd round were about 600+ applications were selected... Quite a difference but I do hope we would have more quality application this time
GOOD LUCK TO EVERY ONE
I would like to know If I could sponsor my parents in 2018. The only concern I have is my 3 year stay in Canada.
I became a PR on July 8th 2015 and I started working on July 13th 2015 with a annual salary $ 85000 (So 2015 earning was around $ 42000). I'm single and no dependant partner.
I still have this job and would like to know if I could apply for my mum and dad in 2018. I will have 3 T4's by end of February 2018 and I would complete 3 years only by July 2018.
Reason i'm getting my parents : We are three siblings all in 3 different countries ( US, UK and Canada)My parents are getting old, and believe me, when I get a call from home, say at 11am Canada time which is midnight in India, I get a mini heart attack, its that anxiety. I think its a price you pay for immigrating but I like o have my parents here.

I would guess that there will be tens of thousands less entries this year, given that the interest form now has the income requirements on it. Granted, many people still fail to understand that simple information, as evidenced by the questions seen on here, but it should still weed out the vast majority who applied last year without checking basic requirements.

There were 95000 interest forms received. 10000 invites were issued in the first round but many didn't apply because they didn't actually qualify. The second round of invites came from that existing pool of 95000.
