Hi all,

We still haven't submitted our application but will do in the next few weeks. We're thinking a bit ahead now. I'm the Canadian sponsoring my Common-Law partner to come to Canada.

We're thinking in 10 years from now, when we'll be well settled with our lives, careers, etc., we'd want to sponsor my partner's parents to come to Canada (they're separated and both married). Would we have to sponsor all 4 of them (and also show the funds to support them) or could any of them come to Canada on their own? Can retirees come to Canada 'to retire' (i.e. spend pension money they get from England on the Canadian economy and live in Canada), or must they come as a sponsored family members or professional/skilled worker?

Thanks!

Must come as sponsored parents and if you do them all at the same time you will need an income to cover 6 people as long as you dont have children.Even if you sponsor 2 of them the first year and 2 of them the next year its within the 3 year term which means you still have 6,as you are responsible for three years for whoever you sponsored.
Now being from England what my ex wifes parents did was they bought a house in Canada on one of their trips, and then they come for 6 monthS then go to their home in England for 6 come back for 6 they have been doing this for years, but they do have a good chunk of money so that helps them.
But their is no retiree visa,so nope cant do that. They can do the FSW if they Qualify and having family in Canada gives them a bonus.

Thanks for that. They really should have a Retiree visa providing the retiree can guarantee they can support themselves through retirement. It would be good for the economy - they'd just spend money in Canada that they get from another country!

Yeah, but retirees end up having medical conditions as they age and Canada doesn't want that burden on their healthcare system. In fact, a high percentage of parents sponsored are refused due to medical inadmissibility. Any little condition and they're found inadmissible due to "excessive demand". I like the 6 months at home/6 months in Canada plan. That's what we intend to do once we retire . . . the weather is much nicer where I come from and then neither of us is leaving family behind forever!
