Asking on behalf of a friend who is in Edmonton (on visitor record) with her daughters in high school (10th and 11th grade).
She recently was offered a housekeeping job from a Hotel, with an LMO. As a parent member of a student visa holder, can she apply for her work permit at Vegreville? Or does she have to leave and return (flagpole at the border)?
CIC site states that if "your spouse or parent" has a work permit or study permit, you are allowed to apply in Canada without having to leave (or flagpole). Can a parent visitor with a study permit holder child do that as well?

1. She can't apply to Vegreville, overseas office or Port of Entry, if she doesn't require a medical.
My friend (the one I mentioned above) will be making a trip to the border this weekend to get her work permit on her entry (she's travel visa exmept).
Her children are currently on study permits. But with her new work permit, she now wants to add them as her dependents (and no longer as study permits).
Two questions:
- Do the children have to accompany her to the border? I assume they do as they'll get stamped as dependent on their passport, but I'm not really sure.
- Does she need a new medical done? She had her medical 2 years ago when she first came to Canada as accompanying parents of her children (study permits then).
