Were you deported or asked to leave? Until recently, they didn't have very good ways of tracking how long you were in Canada unless you had a "visitor record" paper that you were supposed to turn in. It might be possible that there is no record of it in the computer.
If they ban you, it can be for up to 2 years, I think. I haven't heard of any longer bans than that.

They have been phasing in exit tracking over the last few months. It's possible that they haven't really got any good record of when you came to Canada.
There have been warnings in the news in January that this tracking is now happening and that people should be careful. As recently as March of this year, truckers were being told that it hasn't fully been rolled out yet.
I think that if you haven't been given a removal order, they probably didn't really notice that you overstayed. I wouldn't worry too much about that.
How would I know if I ever gotten a removal order? How would they send me one? I think im fine , im just worrying. First time I went to canada, stayed 6 months, left for a month and a half, came back for 6 months left for 2 weeks, then stayed for a year and nothing ever happened to me then...
The first time I stayed for 6 months I got pulled into secondary on my entrance back after the 6 month stay and was allowed in. and after that I was still fine crossing now and then.
I think you'd probably get a registered letter or some kind of mail if you had gotten a removal order. I'm quite sure that you haven't or you'd know it.
Everybody worries about this whole process. I can't tell you the amount of stress I've been through for the past 5 years, but it was never as bad as I thought it might be. You should be fine. Don't be worried if you have to go to secondary inspection. I always find that stressful, but once you're in a qualifying relationship and have applied for PR or are about to, I don't think it will be a problem. I'm pretty sure that they don't know how long you stayed last year.
Mainly, they do want to make sure that you are just visiting and that you will return back to the US at the end of your visit. Being married to a Canadian gives you a lot of reason to not return to the U.S., so you have to reassure them. They may give you a "visitor record" limiting your visit to less than 6 months, but you can usually extend that so long as you have a PR application filed.
