Overstayed 10 years ago

Hello!

I appreciate if anyone could help me with this case, please:

My husband overstayed his canadian 6 months tourist visa 10 years ago. Instead of 6 months he stayed for 10 to 11 months. He didn't work or anything like that. He was living a "sabatic" year and at the end, after realize his mistake, had returned to Brazil without any departure/deportation order. Now (10 years later), married, he wants to apply for a 2 years duration college (and I will apply for a work visa), but we are afraid to have our visa denied because of my husband's previous mistake. Is that probable? Is there anything we could do to avoid and/or fix this? Thank you!

The only thing you should do is tell truthfully in your application that he previously overstayed and offer an explanation. Do NOT lie.
Personally I don't think it would be a huge issue if he simply made a genuine mistake and left of his own accord but I'm not an immigration officer so take that with a grain of salt.

Thank you very much! We are absolutelly going to tell the true. Do you know if we should do this only through a simple explanation? Is the a space in the form for this situation? Given that issue I don't want to miss any chance to make mistakes...
