Option C ...is it for me?

I've been a resident of Thailand for the last 10 years and have paid taxes here and not in Canada since I arrived. My wife (6 years) and I plan to move to Canada next year and I plan to sponsor her as she is a Thai national. I know from my research that I'm not required to validate income under the spouse clause but I'm curious to how "Option C" applies to me? We both work full time, pay taxes here, own a house (which we plan to sell). What do I need to do in the way of income / tax statements or are they even required in my case.

Hey Jasonbangkok,

I am in a similar situation to yours, except I haven't been out of Canada quite as long as you have. I have been living and teaching in Thaialnd with my spouse for the last three years. Although I have been paying my taxes here for that time period, I did also include an option C print out from my last few years in Canada so that they can verify that I haven't been on welfare and they can substantiate that I did work when and where I said I worked. It doesn't hurt to include one with your application, as it is quite painless and free to get. I would suggest sending one in with your application.

Sorry I just saw this post now or I would have responded earlier.

I (the Canadian sponsor) have lived in the US for the last 12 years and only filed taxes in the US. Instead of an Option C I included my last years tax return and a letter stating the reason that I did not have an Option C.
