I am currently having work visa with open work permit, which will expire in June 2010. I heard if I want to extend my work visa I have 2 choices 1) apply HRSDC 2) quite my job then go to school to apply a study permit.
Can I extend my work visa regularly? I heard apply for HRSDC is very complicated. I am currently working in a mid-sized company and have been with this company for more than 1 year. Also, my PR is under process. It has been a year and i have been told my file is under background check so I think I need to prepare work permit extension in case my immigration is still in process by June.
Does anyone have an idea what I should do regarding work visa extension? and does anyone know anything about "background check" with CEC?
babewen,
More than likely, your PR application will be complete by then, But I think you are right to play it safe and apply for a TWP.
As far as I can tell, your employer will need to apply for an LMO from HRSDC, and they should get started soon. It's not that complicated; it IS a pain in the neck for employers, it does take time, and there is a substantial chance that the LMO will be negative.
But honestly, I don't know much about open work permits, the conditions under which you got yours, and whether or not these conditions have changed.

If you work permit is a post graduate work permit, it may not be extended. Your company may apply for LMO and with an approved LMO, you may apply for work permit. Other work permits may be extended, however only if the approved LMO is still in effect (1 year).
LMO application is not overly complex, it just takes time, so you should inform your employer to start right away.
