Hey guys, I am getting worried because my US passport will expire in 9 months, and my birth certificate (from Asia) might be lost.
1) Has anyone been able to get Ontario nomination with a passport that will expire in fewer than 2 years? Here in the US it normally takes 6-8 weeks to renew a passport, and even expedited service takes 2-3 weeks. We also have to send our current passport in with our renewal application form, so I would be without a passport and unable to go to Canada for at least 2-3 weeks. I am waiting on a job offer from an employer in Canada, and with my luck, I'm worried that if I send my passport for renewal, I will get the job offer the next day but be unable to start or even get a temporary work permit processed for a while and the company might lose interest, or if I wait until I get to Canada to renew my passport, then the job offer will never come ... and of course, I would like to submit my application as soon as possible.
2) If I can't locate my birth certificate, what could I submit as a substitute? I was born in Asia (and therefore would need to get the birth certificate translated if I am able to locate it) but was naturalized and have been living in the US since early childhood. I don't see why a US passport isn't enough proof of date of birth, but apparently Ontario wants both passport and birth certificate.
