Ordinary checks are fine. They talk long to clear the funds but they work. Even if you carry certified checks from US bankds it takes a while for them to clear and do not gurantee immed deposit.
The only way to deposit funds immediately is by using Travellers Checks or Cash deposit.

I am not going to settle down immediately in Alberta. Do I still need to take the check/bank statement with me when i complete the landing formalities?

You are better off carrying bank statements and check incase they ask you proof of funds. There was someone on the forum who was asked for proof of funds.
CIC agent asked me to wait for the letter from CIC. It will have the direction on where to submit new photos and how to submit etc. The agent also mentioned that it will take 6 to 8 weeks to receive the letter from CIC.
Received passports yesterday. Instead of going for inperson, i mailed the passports. It took 2 weeks.
I have my visa valid till Nov20,2011. Planning to Move to alberta soon.
I did my medical end of last month.The doc. office said they already mailed the report very next day. can any one let me know how much time it will take to change online status madical received...what next??
I am planning to drive my personal car for landing and I will come back after one week. I do not have my title as this car is financed.
Will it make any problem on crossing the border. Registration and Insurance is under my name.
Please update it when you receive the letter from CIC.

Contact the call center. I don't remember the number, search the forum for it. It's Canada number so call through Vonage or whatever IP service you have. They verify information on COPR and address provided at the time of landing before answering questions.
