One way or round ticket for a short study

One of my friend is coming to Canada for a short study (8 months) from Ukraine. My question is whether he has to book one way ticket or round ticket. there will be any issue at the port of entry if the ticket is one way.

So I believe he/she is on study permit and can opt for one way ticket. Though it's cheap when bought a round trip ticket.
