Lol, Abbas need your help to verify if I am doing the right thing.. i went to https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome, started a new OCI application, added all details and uploaded all the documents (ones that were applicable to me, as i didn't have PIO, relationship certificate, spouse OCI etc).. now we do final submit and take a print of it to send it to BLS?

Hi, just a quick question to ask. Do I need to book appointment for surrender certificate application at BLS? On the website it only gives the option to choose OCI for appts!!

I guess you can book an appointment under VISA also for surrender certificate. as there is no specific option for surrender certificate.
I did same and they allowed me.
Make sure you book one appointment for one passport surrender.
I want to clear my understanding for OCI process. The first step would be to get surrender certificate and second step is to apply for OCI with surrender certificate. Is this correct?
And, I would like to know how much time it will take for getting surrender certificate from Ottawa.
Can I merge this two steps so that I don’t have keep sending docs separately.
Thanks for your comments.

Separate applications. SC is a pre-requisite for the OCI (if you’re a former Indian citizen). Can’t say for Ottawa but I submitted my application in person at BLS Toronto on July 4 and the current status is that it has been printed by the consulate and BLS has shipped it back to me.
Usually, most folks get it back within a month. OCI is about 4-5 weeks on its own.
