1. OCI Application timeline. 21st March- picked up by Purolator. 8th April - processing at BLS. 26th April - Date of Acknowledgment. 19 May - Printed, dispatched and arrived at Toronto

I sent my surrender application via Canada post and it looks like it has reached them. How will I know that they have started processing my application? Will I get an email with a reference number?

you should login to passport portal where you filled your SC form. Just login and wait for few seconds it lists all you passport application related data in table format. You can check status from there it provide more info. You can see my signature to get what status changes happens on passport portal.

Uploads to OCI site - do we need to self attest before scanning? or self attestation needed only for copies provided at BLS?
If occupation is housewife do we need a explanation letter?

I had the same question. Based on suggestions, I just uploaded the scan without attestation. Only while sending the package I did the self attestation.

It's best if you upload self-attested document. BLS may reject the application.

If the last name is abbreviated in marriage certificate, will BLS ask for a affidavit?. in this situation both are indian passport holders wife passport has spouse name but husband passport does not

If the last name is abbreviated in marriage certificate, will BLS ask for a affidavit?. in this situation both are indian passport holders wife passport has spouse name but husband passport does not

If the name is same since you got married and have n't went through the name change process then I dont think they would need affidavit.

My OCI status got updated today (24-May) saying it is "PROCESSED" and Document received at Toronto.

You have to wait until the status changes to (Passport ready For Collection after OCI stamping) and even then they won't provide a tracking number but once this update is made then the Purolator delivery is made within a day's notice. so just watch it closely and make sure someone is home.
