Folks - I had applied my Surrender Certificate appplication & OCI application with 10 days gap.

Just have a question regarding OCI fee for existing PIO card holders... With recent updates I see that there is no registration fee for existing PIO card holder. However, BLS charged us (not sure if I'm wrong or they are wrong) on this.


Instructions For Filling Application Form

8. Enclosures for each applicant:

D. I. OCI registration fee is US$275 for each applicant or equivalent in local currency to be paid by way of demand draft.
II. No registration fee is payable for OCI applications in lieu of Valid PIO cards. However, SMS/Fax/Agent charges, as applicable, will be levied on the applicant.

I have received my surrender certificate along with Indian passport(now cancelled) back.

Date Applied : 02-Mar-2015
Date Received : 26-Mar-2015

I'm still awaiting for my spouse's surrender certificate along with Indian passport applied on the same date and online status shows "Ready for dispatch" on BLS site.

A question on this. if you surrender your indian citizenship, do they return the passport back to you or do they keep it?

they return your indian passport. I think they put cancellation stamp too on indian passport

Correct, they will return the passport to us with a stamp stating "PASSPORT CANCELLED ON ACCOUNT OF HOLDER ACQUIRING CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP".

Original Documents Received Back Date : 31-Mar-2015
OCI Application Date(as per Indian Counslate) : 23-Mar-2015

What is the realistic processing time for OCI ?

usually the whole process takes 2-3 months (took around 2 months for my baby)

Thanks. I will plan to count on HCI till 2 nd week of may and be ready to submit a visitor visa application if the request for passport for OCI sticker doesn't come by then.
