My passport is expiring in Dec 2020 while the PR progress is at 59%, I am wondering if I should renew my passport as it is too close to expiry considering the current timelines of PPR, soft landing and US Visa Stamping. I am on H1b and I need US Visa stamping as well to come back to US.

I don't think you need to. I think it's likely that you will get PR within the next month or so. You will have plenty of time before your passport's expiration date.

So far, I did not hear any updates. Background check shows "We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information." I am a bit worried.
Hey guys, here's my timeline:

AOR: November 3rd 2019

Ghost update: February 20th
Visa office: CPC Edmonton
No any other updates yet.
I guess Edmonton office is very slow... I called IRCC 3 times but prior to the ghost update (maybe 2-3 weeks before for the last time) and they told me only my background check is in progress. nothing about security nor eligibility. I'm impatiently waiting for the PPR email. Anyone else from CPC Edmonton got similar timeline but more updates?

My timeline is also same, 3rd Nov and no update since then, eligibility and background still in progress, the progress bar is also moving slowly as compared to before.
My passport is going to expire in Oct 2020.

Called CIC on Feb 28,2020 agent said eligibility not started yet
security not started yet
Criminality under process
Called CIC on March 10,2020 after Ghost update on March 06, but agent didn't really want to give me any information she said you called 2 weeks ago, your application status is still same but minimum processing time is 6 months so you still have time to wait. But she also said everything looks fine, eligibility and everything under review.
