If you are from the american continent you don't need them since you applied before Dec 30th 2018. However if you are from any other continent it is required.
Maybe, I just consider what I've seen in other threads. After all - only GCMS notes can give you realistic idea of what's going on. I just passed 40 days since my AOR and 1 day since MEP, so it doesn't really make sense to order them now.
When I first noticed that my medicals are done (before I even got an email), my background check was "Your application is in progress.". Around an hour later it switched to "We are processing your background check.", which based on forum posts means IP2.

To this day, my medical exam still shows "we are reviewing the results of your medical exam." My UCI number changed around the same time of this status update, but I am wondering why it has been stuck there so long? All of you seem to quickly go on to "you have passed the medical exams." Any thoughts? My only other status update since AOR has been that Background Check changed from Not Applicable to In Progress.
It is optional if they haven't asked you for it. It is not optional if they ask you for it.
I am inland, and I have not been asked for an RCMP check yet, while my friend who is from the same place as me and is in the same situation as me has already been asked for one.
I did read somewhere that they perform a name check in their databases. If they get a match to your name or birthday, then they'll ask you for one. If they don't then they may not. That's the only explanation I have come up with as to why I haven't been asked for one.
