I opened an account with scotia bank and i beleive they will accept the funds transferred as proof of funds availability. You could also look at credible sources like DD or TC from Thomas cook or Cox & Kings..
My advice will be to renew your passport here. Even if your old passport is cancelled, all the visas will be carry forwarded onto your new passport. I have visas of more than 1 country valid for 5+ years in my old and I have renewed mine. All visas from old get carry forwarded. You new passport will have the old passport # and all you need to do is bind it and take both the passports.
