NEED URGENT HELP - Changing School in Canada

It might be best for him to return to his home country first. It seems staying in Canada while reapplying for a new study permit isn’t an option??

They consulted with an RCIC, who advised them to stop attending Heartland, return to their home country, and continue studying an English program there (which is much cheaper). He can then come back to Canada once he reaches the required English level for the ESL program. However, it seems like the refusal rate for study permits appears to be higher now, with stricter rules and many changes.

He needs to work on his English language scores to have a chance of being successful to begin with in Canada as a student.

The issue is that he is a student on a study permit now going to a DLI that is not on the study permit. Ask RRC if he is studying illegally.

Does your son wants to be successful in his academic in Canada? If not, leaving Canada now is an option.

He is actually my nephew, my sister’s in law’s son.

Update - RRC defer his enrolment until Winter 2026.

Is he allowed to stay in Canada? Or if not, can he stay in Canada while waiting to apply for a new study permit for another school? Thank you.

Deferred enrolment of what the ESL program or 1st year of college? Is he now on a visitor visa that you’ll need to try to extend. Given the costs not sure it makes sense to remain in Canada because I assume English languages courses would also be available in his home country. There is no guarantee his English will improve enough in 4 months.

@canuck78, sorry for the confusion. He has already stopped taking the English program at another school. Now, he is self-studying to meet the English score requirements for RRC’s ESL program this coming May. RRC has given him until March 2nd to submit his latest English test result. If his test result meets RRC’s minimum requirements, they will accept him for the May intake.

If not, can he still stay in Canada (while waiting for a new SP be approved)? He is planning to apply for a new study permit for another school that will accept him to study English. Please advise.

Now, he is self-studying to meet the English score requirements for RRC’s ESL program this coming May. RRC has given him until March 2nd to submit his latest English test result. If his test result meets RRC’s minimum requirements, they will accept him for the May intake.

If he doesn’t pass he should return home. He would have already spent 6 months in Canada not studying at the school he was supposed to attend.
