We're arriving in Canada as PR next month (2 kids: 3 and 5 yrs old) and looking for rent out a 2 BR apartment either in London or one of the Toronto's suburbs (Milton, Oakville, any other). Would appreciate if anyone can share available apartment options in these areas with rent and any documentation requirement.
I'm looking for something under 1,500. I checked out viewit.ca but will check out the other two. Had some additional questions and would appreciate help in this regard:
I've been eying Milton as a prospective place to live however apartments seem to be pretty expensive there considering distance from Toronto. Any particular reason for that? Should I consider other places near Toronto instead (Oakville, Brampton). I am intionally avoiding Missisuaga as I've heard insurance and other costs are higher there
Is it realistic to plan renting my own place within a week of landing there? I will be living with relative in London so exploring and renting a place near Toronto seems difficult to achieve given logistics issues
Being a new immigrant, are there additional documentation/deposit requirements before being able to rent a place?
Milton was the fastest growing city in Canada at some point and real estate there is still hot so you wont find it cheaper to buy or rent. Not sure if it is considered part of GTA but it is connected to downtown Toronto by GO transit system (buses, trains), another reason why its not cheap. You might find Brampton cheaper, but I doubt Oakville is.
You may wanna give 2-4 weeks before you actually find a place and move in. Most of the time you will need a type of security to rent when you are new in Canada, like showing available funds for the rental duration, paying extra month or 2 in advance (beyond the normal first and last month), or you may need a guarantor (someone with history in Canada).
