I am 25 years old, a US citizen living in the states, but I intend to move to BC in the coming years. My mother lives in the states as well but she retained her canadian citizenship. I am wondering if it is possible to apply for Canadian citizenship through that connection (or, failing that, would using my Canadian relatives as sponsors help)? I tried to understand the immigration forms but I am confused by the whole process. I fear I might be too old for this.
Though it is a long story, I was told by Canadian custom agents that our "significant relationship" with Canada (my mom, I guess) meant we would not be detained. Yea, long story...
Go to the Canadian embassy and demand your Canadian citizenship. If that doesn't work, AB and MB provincial nominee programs have a family stream option so possibly if you have and aunt or uncle there, it would work.
Persons considered to be natural-born Canadian citizens can be born either in Canada (with exceptions for foreign diplomatic personnel), or outside Canada if, at the time of birth, one parent is a Canadian citizen.
Ok so if you are sure that you are not a citizen because of your mom or don't qualify to be, then the only use you have for the Canadian relatives is that if you apply as a skilled worker, you might get points for them or if they live in AB or Manitoba, they can sponsor you under family stream. Being a british citizen will not matter at all.
