u can take travellers cheques u can take cash up to $10000 without declaring or above $10000 but then u have to declare on the customs form....u can carry credit cards but fees and other things apply on credit cards make u lose money......credit cards just for emergency but they need to be international cards like visa mastercard....

if u want liquid cash shop around for the best conversion rate dont do it at airport they may give lowest rates...try banks etc nationalized banks have foreign exchange department
iam going from cochin airport.. my question is that we should be needing a few dollars in hand at the time of arrival in canada on the safer side(in case of an emergency). in that case a travellers cheque otherwise very usefull becomes useless.. so in short how do we get the dollors in hand..
P.S : travelling international first time

u normally take the bulk of ur money in travelers cheques(unless u have international account like scotia bank) u can also wire transfer money later when u r in canada but u need atleast $2000 that u can spend right away for lets say hotel accommodation, taxi, mise expenses etc. $100-$2000 in cash with $10-$20 in denominations of $5,$1 ,quarters so u can use pay phones or get trollys on airport etc...taxi can cost u $40 to $60 roughly varies by distance. airport trollys cost $2-$5 in sometime change . if u take a meal on airport could cost $10-$15 . It is good to have an international credit card just in case someone does not accept case which is very rare. so depending on ur situation like is someone picking u from airport, or u have already paid for accommodation etc u can decide how much u can take with u. once ur there u open a bank account and deposit ur cheques or get a wire transfer or deposit cash. so its ur choice how u want to take ur money . u can take upto $10000 cash without declaring .
