Medical Tests - any insurance cover?

If a family of three is looking for PR from within Canada - I'm assuming the cost of medical tests will be about 750 - 250CAD /person - is that right?
Also i understand that OHIP does not cover this, but would this by any chance be covered by extended insurance from work - eg Manulife ?

External insurance depends on the coverage. Call your provider. PR medicals do not fall under routine health checks.

^Somehow I don't think so.
1) The procedures are "non-essential" or non-life threatening (e.g. You're not getting an CxR because you're sick).

2) Also, these procedures, when routinely performed, are covered by OHIP, so there will be this rhetorical question from Manulife of "why did you not use OHIP for these?"
Who knows, maybe your policy allows for annual medical exams.

I'm a finance person btw, but never thought about the costs (family of 4) even if these were unbudgeted and suddenly happened (RPRF + Medicals). There's nothing wrong with being budget-conscious, but not for things like this.

Can we claim this (medical test receipts) while filing tax returns? I guess my doc said "Here is your tax receipt" ... I don't recall correctly though.... have to check the fine print in the receipt.

Nope, this cannot be claimed as a tax return as well. Even if one has a small business, medicals are not covered under this list by the CRA: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/slprtnr/bsnssxpnss/menu-eng.html

Then again, I am no accountant, so if really inclined, need to speak to one.

I think you are checking under 'Business' category while we are covered under 'Individuals and Family' and going through it , it seems we can claim it.
