I received my CAIPS today(printed on 28th Sep,2011). although my ECAS showed medical received, in my file, the criminal check is still in process. Worse still, buffalo have not even start the security check for me... I guess I have to wait for another months or so... good luck to others!!
just google CAIPS, and you will see.
CAIPS is short for 'Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System'. It is the computer system used by Citizenship & Immigration Canada to process visa applications, and holds all the information on the current status of every immigration application being processed by overseas offices i,e, buffalo office

First, what does your CAIPS tell you about Medical? Does it say completed?
I believe the security checks conducted by CSIS are not a requirement for some PR applicants in certain situations, while background check is a must.
If you are not required to be screened by CSIS, your status will remain 'not started' - when the criminal is done by the police, you will probably get PPR.

Morgan:
It states very clearly on cic website that once you have an e-CAS which states "medials has been recieved"; the deision is already made. I have went to past forum activities and our status is one step further then "application in process". It is at this step (application in process) where they ask for extra documents and all the background checks are done. It is very likely that ur background checks was complete after sep' 28th.....cz we hav been updated around 10th of october with our updated status.
No!
we are one step ahead of you. Let me explain, when the e-CAS states "the application is under process" it means that they may have required additional documents or they are still processing some more steps (god knows which steps)....
When this step is complete, then comes " medicals have been recieved".....it means that ur medicals, criminal are done.....and a decision has been made...
once again , this is what I am seeing on all forums and it is consistent.....we should be getting a PPR request soon....
I may be wrong, but its my perception to how things are really happening behind our eyes.

in my CAIPS, the status of my medical results is "assessed: no health impairment to prevent admission". So i guess medical part is done.
Thanks for your interpretation. Finger crossed!
In addition, I want to say that my CAIPS confirms the hypothesis which states that a disappearance of address in ECAS implies a update of your file. Personally, I observed a disappearance of address in ECAS around 25th July. And CAIPS indicates my medical received in Ottawa at the same date. Well, at least this rumor works for me...
